Five Reasons to book a Winter Session

Winter feels like it has made an early appearance this year and if you are anything like my family we have been rugged up in our cosy knits (who else reaches for their uggies as soon as it drops below 20 degrees?) however, unlike our southern counterparts we still are fortunate to be able to enjoy the beautiful weather that the Northern Rivers provides us. We are so lucky that we have an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors where others would be confined to their homes.  Just last week we all piled into the car and headed out to Fingal Head to try our luck with whale watching, and while we didn’t see any whales we were incredibly fortunate to see a huge pod of dolphins surfing through the waves no more than 50 metres from us!!

It was such an incredible experience watching them play together and created a memorable experience for our girls who had never seen animals like this in the wild. We stayed until sunset and the light that cast over the ocean was magical - our eldest even commented that fairies had painted the sky pink. It was an incredible day and is something that I would be happy to re-create for you.

Here are my five reasons why you should book a winter session!

  1. The sun sets nice and early, which means we can have your session done and dusted by 5pm and you can those sweet little babes of yours home in time for dinner and tucked up in bed nice and early!!

  2. LAYERS!!!! Let’s be honest, we don’t really get much of a winter here in Northern NSW and SEQ so it’s pretty exciting when we can pull out those snuggly knits!! I absolutely LOVE outfits with layers, the different textures create so much more interest to your photos, and it’s fun to have an opportunity to wear all of those winter woolies that sit in the wardrobe for most of the year!

  3. The best outdoor locations are nice and quiet!! Winter is the perfect time to head to your favourite creek or beach because it is highly likely no one else will be there, which means your kids can run wild and you join them without worrying about people watching or photobombing!

  4. The light is MAGIC!! The sun is lower, which on a sunny day results in the most amazing soft golden light and pink fairy floss skies. Even on overcast days the sunsets are still amazing so don’t let the clouds scare you away! some of my absolute favourite sessions are when the clouds are low because the light is so soft, and often beautiful dramatic skies as the sky peeks behind.

  5. TIME TO GET SNUGGLY!!!! What better opportunity to have snuggles with your favourite little people than to head outdoors on a winter day, I’ll bring a big chunky blanket to wrap you all up in and capture all the family snuggles!!!

So many of my favourite family sessions were during the winter months, and Madi’s family session is one of them! So many snuggly winter knits in beautiful autumn tones these images are bursting with warmth!!
