Best family Photoshoot Locations from the Gold Coast to Byron Bay
As a family, maternity, and newborn photographer who has spent years living and working in this region, I have had the privilege of exploring and photographing some of the most stunning locations from the Gold Coast through the Tweed Coast down to Byron Bay. We are fortunate to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural environments in Australia, and I would love to share some of my favourite family photo locations with you.
Currumbin Beach and Currumbin Alley
Known for its iconic Elephant Rock, Currumbin Beach offers a mix of rocky outcrops and long stretches of sand. It's perfect for both playful family shots and serene moments during sunrise or sunset. The beachside creeks are fantastic for families with young children, offering shallow, calm waters that are safe for play. Nearby, Currumbin Alley offers sandy dunes, a calm creek, and ocean views, giving you the best of both worlds. This spot is great for families who want to enjoy a variety of natural settings in one location.
Dreamtime Beach at Fingal Head
Possibly my favourite location to watch the sun as it rises behind the headland, Dreamtime Beach at Fingal Head is a serene and secluded spot perfect for capturing stunning family photos. The pristine sands and crystal-clear waters create a tranquil atmosphere that is ideal for both playful and intimate sessions. We can stay on the beach, or wander up to the headland and visit the lighthouse, adding a touch of adventure and variety to your photo session.
Kingscliff Beach and Cudgen Creek
Kingscliff Beach combines urban vibes with beach beauty, giving you a unique backdrop for your photos. It's great for families who want a mix of natural and urban elements in their photos, providing a diverse range of settings for your session. Cudgen Creek, known for its clear waters and scenic surroundings, is a family favourite located nearby. It's perfect for young children who love to play in shallow, calm waters. The picturesque setting also makes it an ideal spot for maternity sessions.
Hastings Point and Cabarita Beach
Hastings Point is a hidden gem along the Tweed Coast, featuring a headland with beautiful rock formations and a whimsical vibe. It's an excellent spot for capturing the playful and adventurous spirit of families. Just down the road, Cabarita Beach offers a mix of activities, from heading to the cove to running along the main beach collecting shells. This beach is ideal for families who enjoy both relaxation and exploration.
Christmas Beach in New Brighton
A tranquil spot where the Brunswick River meets the ocean, Christmas Beach has a gentle creek, with a beach close by. It's an excellent location for intimate maternity sessions, particularly if you're looking to capture those intimate water portraits.
Broken Head in Byron Bay
Just a stone's throw from Byron Bay, I love this spot for its serene atmosphere and stunning views. You can even spot the lighthouse in the distance! It's perfect for families who love the water, offering plenty of space for kids to splash, climb headlands, and explore rock pools. Golden hour photos here are pure magic, especially in the cooler months when the sky lights up with stunning hues.
Murwillumbah's Cane Fields
For a country vibe, you can't beat Murwillumbah's cane fields, especially at sunset. The golden hour casts a warm glow that creates a stunning backdrop against the distant mountains. It’s a picturesque setting that captures the rustic charm and peacefulness of the countryside, making it a favourite Gold Coast photo location.
Crystal Creek in Tweed Valley
Nestled in the Tweed Valley, Crystal Creek is one of my family's favourite spots in summer. With cool, clear waters and a rope swing, it offers both adventure and serenity. It's an ideal spot for families who love exploring natural beauty and want something a bit different from the usual beach scene.
